Conor McKinnon

Conor McKinnon and Emma Glen were quickest male and female riders on the Bolton by Bowland circuit, as Rossendale Road Club staged a 10.3-mile hilly time trial on Saturday.

McKinnon, the 22-year-old from Liverpool who rides for Dolan Ellesse, clocked 24-13 to take overall victory by 58 seconds and start his season in style.

45-year-old Emma Glen (Springfield Financial Race Team) was fastest of two women in the field. The Lytham St Annes rider clocked 36-33 to win by exactly two minutes from Rossendale RC’s Helen Thomas.

McKinnon is perhaps better known as a road rider, having ridden several high profile events last season including the Lincoln Grand Prix and Beaumont Trophy, as well as the National Road Race Championships.

But he is obviously a force in time trialling too, leaving Congleton CC’s Alastair Ribbands to take second spot while veteran Richard Bideau (Pendle Forest CC) completed the podium with third, just two seconds behind Ribbands.

Emma Glen

Next weekend McKinnon will be aiming to repeat this victory when he rides the Manchester and District TTA 10-mile time trial, while Emma Glen is hoping to get a ride at the West Pennine RC hilly 14.6-mile event in two weeks.

Elsewhere in the result Ted Birkbeck (Giant Kendal) was fastest junior with 27-21, Nick Giles (Pocomotion Road Club) was fastest over-60 veteran with 27-08 for 11th overall.

The popular L112 course begins at Bolton by Bowland and takes riders north on a clockwise loop up into North Yorkshire before turning back down through the Forest of Bowland.
