Junior Matthew Cole (Team Bottrill) took a fine victory finishing 38 seconds ahead of his rivals in the Stockton Wheelers event on Tan Hill, while Hannah Farran (Team Boompods) was the women’s winner.

The 17-year-old, who was National Youth Champion last season, completed the 10.88-mile course in a winning time of 35 minutes and nine seconds.

The Reeth to Tan Hill event sees riders climb for the first 1.74 miles before descending down and through Langthwaite and then at 7.6 miles into the event making the final climb to the summit.

Cole, from Scorton, had only previously ridden one open time trial event coming into the event winning the Yorkshire Cycling Federation 10 in March, but showed no rustiness as he climbed to victory.

Jude Taylor (Team PB Performance) had won the Otley two-stage hill climb the previous day and completed a good weekend of racing finishing second in 35-47.

There was also a close battle for third place with Marcel Schubert (Darlington Cycling Club) clocking 36-07 which was 14 seconds faster than Adam Pinder (PM Racing UK).

Schubert who has won 13 events this year during a lengthy season finished third on this occasion but was quickest veteran 40+ while Shaun Tyson (Protech Velo) was best veteran 50+ in 39.23.

In the women’s event Farran was on top form recording a winning time of 43-28 which was nearly three minutes clear of her nearest rival.

Farran also won the Cleveland Whls CC HC the previous week and continued her preparation for the National Hill Climb Championships with another fine performance.

Hannah Bayes (Saint Piran) finished second at the previous day’s Otley two-stage hill climb and repeated that result recording a time of 46-16.

Completing the women’s podium positions was quickest junior rider Daisy Freer (Stockton Wheelers CC) finishing in 47-14.
