Sally Turner

Colin McDermott and Sally Turner were fastest male and female respectively at a freezing cold VTTA Surrey/Sussex 10-mile time trial on Sunday morning.

Fastest rider in the men’s event was Festival Road Club’s McDermott in a time of 21-44, ahead of Nik Allen from Team TMC, who was six seconds back in 21-51 – just one second in front of third-placed George Welfare (Eastbourne Rovers CC).

In the women’s event, Turner’s time of 23-41 was enough to take victory for the trainSharp rider, with Lisa Davis from DRAG2ZERO recording 24-05 for second place and Lewes Wanderers CC’s Kate Thomas finishing in 25-14.

The 10-mile route, on course G10/87, starts on South Street in East Hoathly before heading south and following the A22 through Whitesmith and Golden Cross until reaching Boship roundabout where riders turn and retrace the A22 back through Golden Cross and Whitesmith then finishing on East Hoathly bypass.

McDermott, 54, was also fastest veteran on standard, while Team TMC were fastest team thanks to the efforts of Kevin Plummer, Allen and Martin Gibbs in a combined 1-08-53.

After finishing fifth at the Southern Counties CU 10-mile time trials and then securing a third place at the Paceline RT Sporting 15.8-mile time trial already this season, McDermott will be looking to build on his victory at the Kingston Wheelers CC Sporting 14-mile time trial on April 17.
