Fennell and Tanner triumph in CC Bexley 10

Nicholas Fennell

Nicholas Fennell (Thanet RC) was the fastest man in the CC Bexley 10-mile time trial near the Isle of Grain, while juvenile Emily Tanner (Woolwich CC) was the quickest in the women’s event.

Over a minute quicker than anybody else Fennell was the only rider to go sub-21 minutes over the 10-mile course, completing his ride in 20 minutes and 32 seconds.

Alex Pearson (Woolwich CC) placed second, finishing his ride in 21:48.

Clinching the final podium spot was Luke Howells (Dulwich Paragon CC) and he clocked a time of 22:03.

The Q10/24 course is an out and back course that runs along the B2001 and the A228.

It begins in the Isle of Grain and heads west across the A228 and through Upper Stoke before riders to turn back at the Fenn Street roundabout just off the Ratcliffe Highway.

From here they head home where the finish line is located just short of where the course started.

Fennell’s last three open events prior to this one had resulted in one victory and two second places, having this win makes that two of the last four and back-to-back wins.

In the women’s event juvenile rider Tanner went fastest clocking 27:20 over the Q10/24 course.

This was Tanner's first open time trial event of the year, she marked the occasion by setting a new personal best over 10 miles and taking the victory.

Second place was Natasha Jarman (Southborough & Dist Whs) who completed the 10 miles in 28:52.

The team award was won by Woolwich CC whose overall time was 1:11:13, made up of times from Alex Pearson, Nick Elson and David Gearing.

There were prizes for veteran categories for the event, those were awarded to Alex Pearson (40-49), Paul Turner was fastest in the 50-59 as he clocked 22:23, in the 60+ category Anthony Whale rode a 27:23 to win.

Meanwhile, quickest male juvenile was Luke Seagrott (Woolwich CC) who clocked 38:47.
