Mapperley CC veteran Ian Guilor and Rebecca Lineker (South Normanton CC) were quickest male and females on time trial bikes at the Rotherham Wheelers 10-mile event near Cuckney in North Nottinghamshire on Saturday.

54-year-old Guilor clocked 20-30 for the O10/5 course, which was four seconds quicker than Neal Parkin (Team Bottrill) in second while Daniel Barnett (Team Bottrill) was third with 20-46.

Meanwhile, 32-year-old Rebecca Linaker covered the course in 23-27 to win the women’s event by around a minute and a half from Sherwood CC rival Elaine Simpson who clocked 24-58, while third was Gillian Campbell (Born to Bike-Bridgtown Cycles) with 26-19.

The road bike event was won by James Lonsdale (Bolsover & Dist CC) with 22-23, just over a minute better than Ashley Roue (Mapperley CC) while Christopher Lawrance (Rotherham Wheelers) was third best on a road bike with 27-01.

The event was also a district heat of the National Youth Championship with Lydia Turan (JRC Interflon RT) breaking the junior course record by 32 seconds with her time of 27-02.

Fastest male junior was Evan Schofield (D2D Sheffield RT) in 22-29, while Gil Grayson (Clancy Briggs Cycling Academy) was second with 23-15.

The course begins south of Cuckney and heads north on Mansfield Road to the outskirts of Worksop, turning at the A619 and heading back south to finish just north of Cuckney before the crossing of the River Poulter.

Guilor’s victory in this event is his second in open time trials this season. He also won the Team Sheffield 10 on the same course back in April. Since then he has placed second in several events including the Sheffrec CC 25, Bourne Wheelers 10, VTTA East Midlands 25, Witham Wheelers 10 and Mid-Shropshire Wheelers 10.

He will be looking to take more victories soon, starting with a ride in the Bossard Wheelers 10 next Saturday and the Rossington Wheelers 25 the following weekend.

Linaker’s win comes after she won the women’s prize at the Peak Road Club 17-mile event last month and placed second at the Matlock CC 25 in March.

She is next due to be in action at the Sheffrec CC 19-mile midweek event to the west of Chesterfield.
