Scratch rider Nicholas Fennell (Thanet RC) stomped to victory by exactly three minutes in the VTTA Kent 25, while Rebecca Wilson (Rye & District Wheelers CC) was an emphatic winner in the women’s event.

Fennell, aged 28, took his fifth victory of the season clocking a winning time of 52 minutes and 17 seconds on the out and back course.

The Q25/12 saw riders start outside New Romney on the A259 and initially heading north-westerly before briefly turning south-westerly down to Brookland before riders turned back on themselves and continuing north on the A2070 up to the turn at Ashford.

On the shorter return journey riders headed on the downhill section into a headwind down to the finish at New Romney.

Despite a strong headwind on the return journey some strong times were posted led by Fennell who placed 14th at the National Closed Circuit Championships earlier this month.

Quickest veteran Nick Wilson (Rye & District Wheelers CC) led the chase for the remaining podium positions taking second in 55-17 just a single second faster than fellow veteran Paul Burrows (Thanet RC).

Wilson was also the quickest veteran on standard with his time equating to +14.39.

Meanwhile, the tandem pairing of John and Kate Bosley (Abellio - SFA Racing Team) completed the course in a time of 1-02.30.

Wilson was a clear winner in the women’s event setting a winning time of one hour, eight minutes and two seconds.

The 56-year-old also won the VTTA Kent 50 in July and was once again victor on this occasion beating second placed Lesley Newman (Ashford Wheelers) who posted 1-16.37.
