Nick Partridge and Jackie Field took victories in the Eastern Counties CA 25-mile event in Norfolk on Sunday, where good conditions led to several personal best performances.

Partridge, the 43-year-old rider with VC Baracchi, clocked a personal best time of 49-30 to secure his second open victory of the season.

He was 41 seconds faster than Army Cycling’s Brendan Reese in second spot, while third was James Scarth (Bishop’s Stortford CC), just shy of a minute further off the pace.

Evergreen veteran Jackie Field (CC Ashwell) covered the course near Attleborough in 55-54 to win the women’s award by 51 seconds from Marianne Holt (Fareham Wheelers). CC Sudbury’s Susan Triplow was third.

Conditions were good with only a slight breeze and warm temperatures, and among the personal bests set were top ten performances from Ryan Gray (Ride Harder) and Tom Carroll (CC Breckland) with 52-23 and 52-52 respectively for seventh and eighth.

This event also marked one of the last few occasions (if not the last) where riders have had to traverse the infamous concrete section around the turn, with resurfacing works due to be completed over winter.

This victory for Partridge is his first in open time trials since May when he won the Great Yarmouth CC two-up 25 alongside team-mate Stuart Supple. However, he has placed third on three other occasions including the Stowmarket and District CC 10, the VC Norwich 25 and the Godric CC 10.

A prolific rider, he is due to ride the Godric CC 25 next Sunday, as well as the Norwich ABC 10 and 25 on October 2 and 3.

Jackie Field’s win is just the latest in a number of victories this season. She was fastest female at the Eastern Counties CA 30-Mile Championship as well as their 15-Mile title race too.

She also won the Eastern Counties CA 50 back in May, as well as the Kent CA 100 and three rounds of the East Anglian VTTA 10-mile Series in June.
