Veteran Drag2Zero rider Keith Murray racked up his latest win in the 23-mile Stockton Wheelers event in Bishopton on Sunday.

He was the only rider to complete the course in under 51 minutes, powering round in 50.41 to top the podium.

A regular winner in both time trial and cyclo-cross events in the north east, Murray got his first win of the season under his belt here in convincing fashion. It puts the 42-year-old in good stead for a half Ironman competition he plans to enter in China.

Second-placed rider, Peter Boyes of TS Racing Team – OTR, was a minute-and-a-half down on the winning time. Hartlepool CC’s Paul Thirling was in third, completing in 54.10.

Alex Smethurst of Team Swift was the fastest woman, her time of 1:04.45 enough for her to beat Louise Hamilton of Mountain Goat Coaching into second and Caroline Heighton of Stockton Wheelers into third.

Son of Keith Murray, Sam, showed that cycling runs in the family with the fastest juvenile time in 57.35.

Adept Cycling won the team prize with Shaun Tyson, Paul Felce and Jorden Matthews combining for a time of 2:48.23.

The AIMS Cycling trio of Mark Pinder, Stephen Belbin and Ben Reynolds just missed out with a time of 2:49.05.
