Oliver Mytton.

Oliver Mytton and Wendy Gooding were fastest male and female riders respectively as Berkhamsted CC staged a late-season 10-mile time trial in Hertfordshire on Sunday.

Mytton, the Verulam-Really Moving rider, claimed his first open win of the season in the event which was moved to the F11z/10 course from Great Gaddesden to the Travellers Rest along the A4416.

His time of 21.35 gave him a winning margin of 51 seconds over TMG Horizon CT rival Rob Fletcher, while Ben Stowe (Arctic Tacx) was third, 1-19 slower than Mytton’s pace.

Meanwhile, Wendy Gooding (Team Bottrill-HSS Hire) notched up another win in the women’s category, her time of 25.17 giving her victory by more than five minutes over Niamh Dempsey (Berkhamsted CC).

The day was wet, windy and difficult for the riders who tackled the second such Berkhamsted CC 10, with standing water on parts of the course and a strong southerly wind which cooled the temperature.

Although it was his first open win of the season, Mytton has recorded some impressive performances in 2017.

Wendy Gooding.

He was second in the Hounslow and District Wheelers 25 back in May, and third in the Fairly United CT 10 in August.

Gooding’s victory came in her 22nd open event of the season, and was just the latest in a string of events where she has been the fastest female.

The veteran from Oundle in Northamptonshire last tasted victory in the Leicester Forest CC 10 in August, while two weeks before that she won the Chronos RT 10.

She was also fastest female in the Melton Olympic 25 the weekend before her Chronos win, as well as being fastest female in the Fenland Clarion 25, Peterborough CC 10 and VTTA East Anglia 10 earlier in the season.
