Paul Pardoe.

Paul Pardoe (Peterborough CC) and Jackie Field (CC Ashwell) were the fastest man and woman respectively as the Northampton and District CA staged a 25-mile time trial in Cambridgeshire on Saturday.

Pardoe clocked 55.05 to win by 18 seconds from Chris Morehen (Kings Cliff Flyers), while Leigh Smith (JCA Equipe Velo) was third, another 22 seconds back.

And fastest female Jackie Field covered the course in 1:00.30, giving her the win in that category by almost six minutes with Sarah Short (Bonito Squadra Corse0 second and Jennifer Andrews (CC Ashwell) 7-11 behind her team-mate in third.

Conditions were horrendous, with torrential rain making the road surface slippery and treacherous. Nevertheless there were some impressive performances throughout the field.

The riders completed just over two laps of a circuit north of Guilden Morden, starting south of Wrestlingworth and heading anti-clockwise up to Wendy, then briefly along the A1198 before heading back west through Tadlow and on to the southern fringes of Wrestlingworth, finishing further south than the start point, just north of Guilden Morden.

Jackie Field.

It was Pardoe’s second open time trial win, while for Field the victory comes after a string of impressive results in 2017 from the 52-year-old from Great Abington in Cambridgeshire.

She placed third in the National 100-mile championship, was fifth in the National 50-mile Championship, and won round four of the Knight Composites Classic TT Series in Scotland, a result which gave her the overall win in the veteran women’s category in the national series.

Other prize categories saw CC Ashwell take the team prize thanks to Gareth Davies, Michael Martin and Jason Stuart, while fastest junior was Noah Field of CC Ashwell, who clocked 1:11.24 and was just ten seconds ahead of his nearest rival.

Jackie Field was also fastest in the 50-59 age category with a plus of +13.25 giving her the win in that category by more than two minutes.

The 60-69 category was won by Patrick Ellerbeck (St Neots CC) with +11.03, while top over-70 rider was Bill Barrie (Welland Valley CC) with +11.20.
