Sleaford Wheelers Cycling Club 10

Jack Levick was crowned fastest male while Madeleine Gammons finished as quickest female at Sleaford Wheelers Cycling Club Charity 10-mile time trial in Lincolnshire on Saturday afternoon.

Rose Race Team rider Levick was the only rider to finish in under 20 minutes, clocking 19-54 on his way to victory, with Jacob Storey (trainSharp) more than a minute back in 21-08 and Mark Greenwood completing the top three, the Lungs 2 Legs rider finishing in 21-14.

Levick has now won six races in a row dating back to the Ratae Road Club 10-mile time trial on September 4 last year and including the 50-mile North Lancashire Time Trial Association Championship as well as the Darlington CC 25 and City Road Club (Hull) 10 in an unbeaten start to this campaign.

On his form, Levick said: “I’ve found a couple more hours a week to train and I have some go-faster gear now, and I think I’ve got my head around it all now.

Good Friday traffic meant it was quite busy. The numbers are where they need to be at this time of year. I despise 10-mile time trials, I’m just not very good at them.

“I’ve just not been able to beat my personal best of 19-26 from 2017. I prefer 25s and 50s, and I’m now looking forward to seeing how I stack up against other riders to see if I’m on pace.

“It’s a sigh of relief that it wasn’t a one-hit wonder last year.”

In the women’s event, Loughborough Lightning’s Gammons registered 24-44 on her way to winning ahead of Evgeniya Righini-Brand, riding for the promoting club, in 25-50, while her clubmate Joanna Howes took third place in 26-27.

Elsewhere, Samuel Howes (Sleaford Wheelers) was quickest Espoir, with Boston Wheelers’ Connor Wilkinson named top Under-18 and veteran on standard tied between Andy Thomas (Lindsey Road) and Mick Stevens (Melton Olympic) and Witham Wheelers’ Michael Smalley taking third.

There was double success for the promoting club in the road bike event, with Helen Bullement first in the women’s event and Stuart McKellar earning victory in the men’s event.

The event saw 62 riders complete the course, with the day raising a total of £454.32 for Kidney Research UK, through the entry fees, raffle and generous donations for the magnificent display of homemade cakes.

This event, run on the C10/10 course, starts on the A15 Sleaford bypass just south of Quarrington Roundabout before proceeding south on the A15 through Osbournby then encircling the roundabout and retracing the course along the A15 to finish just short of the start line.
