Dukinfield Cyclists' Club 50

David Parkin earned a third win of the season with success at the Dukinfield CC Brian Clayton Memorial 50-mile time trial on Sunday morning, with Jasmine Holmes the quickest female.

Riding for Velotik Racing Team, Parkin clocked 1:46-23 to take the top placing, ahead of runner-up Alexander Royle (Manchester Bicycle Club) in 1:47-01, while Benjamin Akin of Tri Central UK finished in third place in 1:49-13.

So far this season, Parkin has picked up wins at the Crewe Clarion Wheelers two-up 15-mile event on March 31 and at the Macclesfield Wheelers 25-mile time trial on April 20 from his four completed events.

“I’m super happy to take the win and defend the trophy from 2023,” said Parkin. “Spindata had me down for 1:49 which I knew would not be enough today.

“I quite enjoy the course being almost four laps, as it gives a good opportunity to break it down. I went hard on lap one in great conditions, and then backed off to ensure I could finish strong.

“Around halfway I lost an arm rest, and this meant holding position became much more difficult, especially with the wind picking up towards the end.

“As always King Street was tough but expected, thanks to MyWindsock analysis. I was glad to cross the line in the end, without any real hold-ups.

“It was a well organised event and a good run out. I’ll be heading down south over the coming weeks to tackle some faster 50 and 100 courses.”

In the women’s event, Holmes, riding for Total Tri Training, set an unbeaten 2:05-33 for top spot, with a time of 2:20 -55 helping Lynsey Astles (Congleton CC – MyWindsock) to the runners-up spot and Julie De Winton securing the final spot on the podium in 2:21-40.

“There aren’t many 50 mile TTs, so every time there is a local one I take the opportunity to test myself over the distance,” said Holmes. “With the distance being longer, it requires a lot more thought with nutrition and pacing, which I really enjoy and was able to execute well today.

“I managed to pace it really evenly too, something I haven’t done too well with in the past. Overall it was a great morning out in the sunshine at a really well organised race.”

This event, held on the J4/9 course, is a looped circuit that starts just west of Cranage and heads east before turning northbound at Cranage on the A50, then turning northwest bound on the B508 through Lach Denis, then reaching Rudheath and turning back southbound for the penultimate leg to Middlewich, then north to Byley to continue past the start to complete two further full laps, finishing on the fourth lap at Middlewich.
