Having Fun on Bikes – for over 140 years!
The Dukinfield Cyclists’ Club, founded in 1885, is one of the oldest cycling clubs in the country and has a proud and illustrious history with a strong membership ranging from age 10 to over 80. Our most well known promotion is our Open 50 mile time trial held in early May which has run almost continuously (apart from covid 2020) since 1928 and is believed to currently be the longest running 50 on the calendar with some illustrious past winners.
The club is based primarily in Dukinfield, Tameside with around half the current membership residing in the area and the other half from the Stockport and South Manchester area. All the members are very proud of the tradition of the club whose name is synonymous throughout the cycling fraternity as a good-natured, welcoming club.
The club organises road rides each Sunday to accommodate all levels of fitness, abilities and time constraint. You don’t need to be of elite status to enjoy our rides.
• Dukinfield rides generally depart from Dukinfield Town Hall at 9am and return between noon and 1pm and will cover around 30-50 miles.
• Hazel Grove – start at 9.30am are longer rides with a cafe lunch stop typically somewhere in Cheshire or Derbyshire, with a return between 4 pm and 5 pm. Club runs are organised via a stack team app. www.teamapp.com/clubs/871945?_webpage=v1
We also have regular gravel and occasional mountain bike rides.
The club also hires the Tameside Cycle Circuit in Ashton for the evenings from 7:30pm to 9pm. These are presently held on the second and fourth Monday of each month from March to October. This closed circuit is a perfect way for novice riders to get more confident on a bike and for more experienced riders to improve their skills.
Throughout the year the club organises various events, both on and off the bike, including club time-trials – which are an ideal way for newcomers to try to achieve their personal best in a relaxed friendly atmosphere.
The club welcomes new non-racing members – who simply love riding their bike, or are keen to get into cycling – why not get in touch and come ride with us. Please visit our website at dukinfieldcc.org for further details
