PLEASE NOTE THAT FIRST RIDER OFF WILL be 06:31 and not 07:01 as printed in the CTT handbook

The fourth ESCA event of the season.  A Sunday morning 50 mile TT.  HQ East Hoathly Village Hall BN8 6EQ on Church Marks Lane and also accessible on foot from South Street. There is Wifi in the hall which means live times, possibly even a split, will be available in the HQ using ResultSheet, something that is not easy to set up in the Sports Pavilion due to the poor mobile signal there and no WiFi.

Various BAR competitions require a qualifying 50 to be ridden. The ESCA 50 is a BBAR, ESCA long and short, VTTA, etc etc qualifying event. There are not many 50’s that you can ride in the South East.

This ESCA event is one of only three 50 mile TTs in CTT London South - G courses, basically Sussex - and CTT South East - Q courses, basically Kent - in 2024.

Please note that SCCU are not organising a 50 in 2024 and the Kent CA 50 on 26 May has been cancelled.

Please note that there is only one 100 mile TT in the South East in 2024, the Southern Counties on 14 July.  Please support long distance TTs and prepare to ride the SCCU 100.

Mcnamara and McGawley triumph at East Sussex CA 50
Chris Mcnamara

Christopher Mcnamara earned a fourth win of the season in the open category at the East Sussex Cycling Association 50-mile time trial on Sunday, with victory in the women’s category going to Kerry McGawley.

After racking up wins so far this season at Velo Club St Raphael 16.5-mile time trial on March 24, then at …a3crg 50-mile time trial on June 2 before triumphing at Horsham Cycling 10-mile time trial last time out on June 8, Mcnamara was again top of the pile this weekend.

A time of 1:44-56 helped the Sigma Sports Race Team rider to top spot ahead of trainSharp’s Howard Shaw who clocked 1:50-04, while a time of 1:52045 ensured John Rogers (Southborough and District Wheelers) claimed the third spot on the podium.

“It was very challenging conditions with strong cross winds and everything from driving rain to bright sunshine,” said Mcnamara, whose brother Simon was a non-starter due to a knee injury. “I enjoyed the ride and it was a good testing course and a great promotion from the ESCA team.

“Next Saturday I have the Viking Cambridge 50, and then the National 50 the following week.”

In the women’s event, McGawley set 2:17-44 to clinch first place ahead of Brighton Mitre CC’s Gemma Shadbolt in second and third-placed Domie Pollard (East Grinstead CC) who managed 2:35-15.

Quickest road bike went to Bec CC’s Dominic Hill, who has sixth overall.

This event used the G50/90 course, which begins near East Hoathly and heads along the A22 between Hailsham and Maresfield to the north of Uckfield with riders completing the course twice.
