East Sussex CA 50

Cris Coxon (Brighton Mitre CC) was a convincing winner finishing almost three minutes clear of his rivals in the East Sussex CA 50, while Pip Jenkins (1904RT) rode well clear of her competition in the women’s event.

Coxon, from Steyning, completed the course in a winning time of one hour, 49 minutes and six seconds, finishing two minutes and 54 seconds clear of his nearest rival.

The G50/89 saw competitors complete two laps of an out and back course between Maresfield and Halisham along the A22.

Veteran rider Coxon, aged 45, had eight podiums to his name this season coming into the event including one win at the Central Sussex hilly 10 and took his second win on this occasion.

Scratch rider Sam Fuller (7Oaks Tri Club) led the chase behind and finished second in 1-51-52 for his first podium finish of the season.

The fight for third was a close one with Matthew Woods (Eastbourne Rovers CC) clocking 1-53-18 which was just 16 seconds faster than team-mate George Welfare.

In the women’s event Jenkins took a convincing win with her time of 2-05-23 some 11 minutes and 50 seconds faster than her nearest rivals.

Jenkins, aged 34, from Groombridge, clinched her third win of the season after also successful rides in the Medway Velo Club 25 and Southborough & District Wheelers 10 events.

Quickest veteran on scratch Tracey Williams (Brighton Mitre CC) finished second in 2-17-13 while Jane Wiley (7Oaks Tri Club) took third (2-20-07).
