Jacob Vezey was quickest rider up the Gribdale Moor climb to win by around 11 seconds from fastest female Mary Wilkinson who was an impressive second in the AIMS Cycling event near Kildale in North Yorkshire.
Vezey, the 31-year-old Harrogate Nova CC rider, clocked 3-05.3 for the 0.64-mile climb while 40-year-old Wilkinson (Yorkshire Road Club) showed her good form with second spot and fastest female in 3-16.2.
The promoting club’s own Mark Pinder (AIMS Cycling) was just 1-6 seconds further back in third, while Shaun Tyson (Protech Velo) was fourth, another two seconds off the pace.
This was only Vezey’s second open ride of the season so far having placed 13th in the competitive Ilkeston CC event the weekend before, but he will be targeting glory again next Sunday when he rides the GS Metro climb on Hedley on the Hill.
Wilkinson is a dedicated hill-climb rider, having ridden just two CTT events so far this season, with fourth overall – and first female – at last weekend’s Team Bikestop Tyrekey climb.
Having finished second in the last three National Hill-Climb Championships she has ridden, Wilkinson will be targeting this year’s title race on the Winnat’s Pass climb near Castleton in Derbyshire on October 31.
Elsewhere in the result on Gribdale Moor, Lawrie Dryden (Cleveland Wheelers) was top juvenile in 3-47.5, while second female was Team Boompods’ Hannah Farran in 3-40.2.
