Separate Road Bike and TT Bike categories

September 18th Sunday will be the first running of Sotonia CC’s Leg Loosener TT. It’s on a 14.5 mile sporting course similar to the P182 but with a sting in it’s tail. The course starts in Landford and finishes with a climb up Pipers Wait – a short but steep climb – with separate Road Bike and TT Bike categories and prizes.

The club is hoping to make this a really fun and successful event, appealing to a large number of cyclists and not just hardened time trialists.

There will be separate road and TT prizes, separate prizes for women, and some extra prizes the club are working on…

  • Fastest junior

  • Timed segment for the climb of Pipers Wait

  • Big Ring Beast award

  • Quickest puncture

Full details of all the prizes we are planning can be found below.

HQ will be Bramshaw Villiage hall

How to enter

This is an open event. Unlike club events, this means you can’t just turn up on the day and you need to enter a couple of weeks in advance via the Cycling Time Trials website.

Entry closes on 7th March 2017

You can enter online via the links below. Don’t delay as it’s easy to forget to enter (especially if it’s nice weather that day and you decide to pop out for a ride).

Prizes

We can’t promise to award all the prizes below as this does depend on the number of entries we get. However we are hoping for a lot of entries, and this will allow us to have a lot of prizes!

Standard prizes

The usual, with each category treated equally. If we get loads of female riders we will award more prizes if possible.

  • 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in the TT Bike category

  • 1st woman in the TT Bike category

  • 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in the Road Bike category

  • 1st woman in the Road Bike category

Fastest junior

The fastest rider under 18. If we get several juniors we will try and award prizes in both categories.

Timed segment on Pipers Wait

There will be a third timekeeper at the bottom of the final climb. As well as your overall time for the whole course you will also be given a separate time from this point to the finish which is about 150m past the top of the climb.

Road bikes will have an advantage here as most of the time in the segment is spent climbing.

Big Ring Beast award

We’ll have our event photographer positioned on the Pipers Wait climb. If you dare grind it out in the big ring then you’ll be eligible for the Big Ring Beast award. The winner will be judged by our photographer. Perhaps it will be the most pro looking rider, the person who looks to be suffering most, who knows.

Quickest puncture

Hopefully you won’t puncture, but if you do don’t despair! Make a mental note of where on the route you punctured and let one of the organisers know. Whoever is unlucky enough to puncture the soonest will get a prize.

What equipment is allowed in the Road Bike Category?

Basically if you could race in a typical criterium or road race using the equipment you have, then it will be fine. Nothing deeper than 60mm fit the wheels, no discs and no tribars obviously!
