Kate Richardson and Chris Smart tasted victory at the St Christophers CC 10-mile midweek 10-mile event in East Renfrewshire this week.

Richardson, the 20-year-old GB track rider from Glasgow, clocked 23-50 to finish as fastest female, 1-14 ahead of runner-up Alex Hayden (Vanelli-Project GO), with Lyndsey Blair (Ayrodynamic Tri Club) third with 28-29.

And regular time trial rider Chris Smart, 42, covered the course in 20-50 to win by 29 seconds from team-mate Marc Anderson, while third was Jesse Dawson (Vanelli-Project GO) who was another 20 seconds off the pace.

With a focus on road racing this season for Lifeplus Wahoo, Kate Richardson has only ridden one other open CTT time trial and took the win there too at the Manchester and District TTA 10 in early March where she was fastest female by more than a minute.

Having placed third in the junior women’s National Hill-Climb Championships in 2020, we look forward to perhaps seeing the espoir on a hill somewhere in the coming climbing season!

Smart’s victory on Tuesday evening was his seventh open time trial victory of the season, and comes after two runner-up spots recently – at the GTR Return to Life four-up 31.5-miler and the Border City Wheelers 25 on July 9.

The event used the WW10/02 course which is an out and back course on the A77 south west of Glasgow.

Winner Chris Smart – who is targeting the National 25-Mile Championships near Forfar next month - said: “The A77 course is always super tough, so times look slow but it’s a proper hard man’s course, exposed and hilly. We were very pleased to take first and second for GTR.”

In other categories, fastest on a road bike was David Johnston (Johnstnoe Wheelers) in 28-11, 50 seconds better than runner-up Alex McPhee (Dooleys RT), while top female on a road bike was Emma Rogerson (Glenmarnock Wheelers) in 29-02.

Top espoir was Craig Paterson (Spokes RT) in 22-00 which gave him fifth overall, while best junior/juvenile was Johnstone Wheelers’ Colin Johnston in 25-32.
