START  at drain by tree stump on Melmerby village green which is approximately 7 miles north east of Penrith.

Proceed in a north-easterly direction on the A686 to climb Hartside Pass to FINISH at the summit at a point 50 metres before the start of the lay-by on the left.

( Note- there are no turns off the road).
