Bath Cycling Club 10

Team-mates Kim Barfoot-Brace and Jake Sargent were fastest in the female and open category respectively at the Bath CC 10-mile time trial in Somerset on Sunday morning.

Sargent clocked a course record time of 19-27 to win by 43 seconds from the promoting club’s Oliver Bridgewood, with third going to Joel Hyde (Pronto Bikes) who was 1-15 off Sargent’s pace.

Barfoot-Brace clocked 22-43 to win the women’s category with ease, runner-up Claire Fennell (Pronto Bikes) setting a time of 25-46, while third was Sarah Jeffries (Pronto Bikes) in 25-53.

Sargent had also won the previous day’s Cardiff 100 Miles RCC 50-mile event, and said after his Bath 10 victory: It was a good race for me, I was a bit unsure how I would go having raced the day before, but from previous experiences and training I knew I can usually put in a good effort!

“The conditions were good, light winds and warm and thankfully not as hot as the day before, but the roads were busy!

“Bath CC did a great job of marshalling and I had a clear run of all eight of the roundabouts, which meant I was really able to focus on the plan set out by my coach Matt Bottrill and finish strong! I’m really happy with my weekend of racing!”

And Sargent’s team-mate, Kim Barfoot-Brace added: “It was the perfect beautiful British spring sunny morning and Bath CC hosted the perfect event with an abundance of cake!

“I was really looking forward to the race as had only managed one result so far this year. The course is tricky with eight roundabouts to navigate, and a lot of luck involved! Whilst 10 miles is most definitely my weakest distance, I surprised myself with a decent ride to take the win and be not too far off the course record.

“It was the perfect morning with my team-mate Jake taking the men’s win and course record in an insanely quick time on that course!”

The event used the U375 course which starts south of Frome and tracks the A361 Frome bypass to the north of the town before heading back down.
