Glen and Jones Take Wins at Southport CC 15

Emma Glen (Blackpool Clarion Cycling Club) and junior rider Albie Jones (North Cheshire Clarion) claimed the women’s and open titles respectively at the Southport CC 15-Mile Time Trial on 10 August 2025, in a postponed event that delivered fast times under ideal conditions in Lancashire.

Ideal Conditions on the Postponed Course

The event, rescheduled from April due to roadworks, saw a smaller field but perfect weather—warm, sunny, with a light north-westerly breeze. The 15-mile out-and-back course started from Sollom, heading down the A59 to Rufford, joining the B5246 and A565 to the turn near Banks. Jones, 17, demolished the junior course record with 30:18, just 44 seconds off Si Wilson’s senior mark. “My debut 15-mile TT was a really good test for the legs—I’m pleased with the result,” he said. “Grateful to Alan Stark and Southport CC volunteers; it’s the people behind the scenes who count.”

Glen, a veteran rider, claimed her first open win of 2025 with 41:52, ahead of Vicky Hinstridge (Ruthin Cycling Club / Clwb Seiclo Rhuthun) (43:10). Matt Morris (Giant-Kendal-Sidas.uk) (31:25) took open runner-up, with veteran Paul Grindley (Liverpool Century RC) (33:55) third. Martin Horrobin (Horwich Cycling Club) won the road bike category in a new record 36:49, followed by Michael Lloyd (Southport CC) (42:56). Liverpool Century RC (Grindley, Colin Hayes, James Meldrum) secured the team prize.
