D33/15Emma Glen (Blackpool Clarion Cycling Club) and junior rider Albie Jones (North Cheshire Clarion) claimed the women’s and open titles respectively at the Southport CC 15-Mile Time Trial on 10 August 2025, in a postponed event that delivered fast times under ideal conditions in Lancashire.
Ideal Conditions on the Postponed Course
The event, rescheduled from April due to roadworks, saw a smaller field but perfect weather—warm, sunny, with a light north-westerly breeze. The 15-mile out-and-back course started from Sollom, heading down the A59 to Rufford, joining the B5246 and A565 to the turn near Banks. Jones, 17, demolished the junior course record with 30:18, just 44 seconds off Si Wilson’s senior mark. “My debut 15-mile TT was a really good test for the legs—I’m pleased with the result,” he said. “Grateful to Alan Stark and Southport CC volunteers; it’s the people behind the scenes who count.”
Glen, a veteran rider, claimed her first open win of 2025 with 41:52, ahead of Vicky Hinstridge (Ruthin Cycling Club / Clwb Seiclo Rhuthun) (43:10). Matt Morris (Giant-Kendal-Sidas.uk) (31:25) took open runner-up, with veteran Paul Grindley (Liverpool Century RC) (33:55) third. Martin Horrobin (Horwich Cycling Club) won the road bike category in a new record 36:49, followed by Michael Lloyd (Southport CC) (42:56). Liverpool Century RC (Grindley, Colin Hayes, James Meldrum) secured the team prize.
Age Group Highlights
The championship celebrated talent across age groups, with Veteran categories (40+ in 5-year bands) showcasing endurance. In the open field, Matt Stell (Springfield Financial Racing Team) (AG 45-49) topped his band with 34:29. Paul Grindley (AG 60-64) won his with 33:55, Colin Hayes (Liverpool Century RC) (AG 55-59) with 35:40, and Simon Price (Ruthin Cycling Club / Clwb Seiclo Rhuthun ) (AG 60-64) with 37:22. David Scott-Miller (Southport CC) (AG 70-74) led his with 43:22, and Rob Rix (Southport CC) (AG 75-79) with 46:30. For women, Emma Glen (AG 45-49) dominated, with Vicky Hinstridge (Ruthin Cycling Club / Clwb Seiclo Rhuthun) (AG 55-59) in second.
Future Ambitions
Jones, a Great Britain junior representative, builds on his debut with eyes on more records. Glen's victory signals a strong season close. Their successes in sunny Lancashire affirm their rising status in UK time trialling.
