WE50/01Chris Smart (GTR - Return To Life p/b Streamline) delivered a commanding performance to claim his fourth win of 2025 at the Scotland District and SVTTA 50-Mile Championship on 3 August 2025 in Fife, clocking 1:45:51. Christina Mackenzie (Stirling Bike Club) secured the women’s title with 2:08:08, marking a triumphant return from her 2022 accident, in an event organized by Fife Century Road Club.
Battling Wind on the WE50/01 Course
The WE50/01, a 50-mile out-and-back single carriageway circuit starting west of Ladybank, featured headwinds out and hilly tailwinds back, with standing water from pre-race rain adding trickiness to turns. Smart led a GTR podium sweep, finishing over seven minutes ahead of teammates Rob Graham (GTR - Return To Life p/b Streamline) (1:53:18) and Marc Anderson (GTR - Return To Life p/b Streamline) (1:54:02). “This is a super result for GTR with a 1-2-3,” Smart said. “I’m proud of Rob’s first solo medal. Conditions were super windy, but the sensations were good—I was determined to win in memory of Hulk Hogan!” His focus now shifts to the North Lancashire Time Trials Association 100 on August 31.
MacKenzie edged Lorna Breetzke (Elgin Cycle Club) ( 2:08:22) by 14 seconds, with Margaret Mcmillan (Deeside Thistle Cycling Club SCIO) ( 2:18:02) third. MacKenzie’s victory underscores her inspiring comeback from a serious road accident in September 2022, breaking her pelvis in two places.
In the SVTTA age-adjusted time category, Smart topped with 1:44:53, followed by Liz Ball (Edinburgh Road Club) Liz Ball ( 1:48:22) and Angus Wilson (Dundee Thistle) ( 1:50:21).
