East Sussex CA 25 victories for Storey and Turner

Jacob Storey continued his unbeaten start to the 2024 season with success at the East Sussex Cycling Association 25-mile time trial on Sunday morning, with Anita Turner winning the women’s category.

Riding for trainSharp, Storey clocked 52-05 for a comfortable triumph ahead of the 55-14 set by John Rogers (Southborough & District Wheelers) and James Bullen (Team TMC) taking third place overall and first road bike in 55-19.

His clubmate Robert Lovett earned fourth overall and was also runner-up on road bike with a time of 57-02, while third place in that category was claimed by Stuart Coleman (Onyx RT) in 57-42.

Storey opened his season by winning the Kent Cycling Association 10-mile time trial on April 14, having won six of the 11 events he entered across an encouraging 2023 season.

“I knew it was going to be tough as the weather forecast was showing temperatures of 5 degrees and a stiff north easterly breeze,” said Storey.

“I made sure I got a good warm up so the legs were ready to go at the start. The course was an interesting one, with a few drags and a fair few roundabouts to navigate.

“I paced it reasonably well but would've liked a bit more in the tank for the harder return leg. Still, the power was good and I was happy to take the win by a good margin.

“This year I'm working the time trials around my plans for the road.

“I've got a bit of a break for a couple of weeks but I'll definitely be getting a few more 10s and 25s in before the nationals and perhaps a few longer events this year too.”

In the women’s category, Turner followed up her third place in Saturday’s East Sussex 10-mile time trial with top placing here for Eastbourne Rovers CC in 1:13-25, while a time of 1:19-42 helped Domie Pollard (East Grinstead CC) to second with her clubmate Catherine Vollmer third in 1:21-38.

This event, run on course G25/89, starts just north of Maresfield and heads southbound on the A22 before bearing right through Thirty Acre Wood then through Uckfield and Ringwood until bearing southeast at Golden Cross, before reaching Horsebridge where riders turn at the roundabout and follow the route back towards the finish line just south of Maresfield.
