Jamie Whitcher and Holly Ramsey both set new course records on a fast day at the Bournemouth Arrow CC 10-mile time trial in Dorset on Sunday morning.

Riding for Bournemouth Cycleworks, Whitcher lowered the existing mark of 19-57 set by Thomas Day to the new milestone of 19-35, while Ramsey recorded 22-33 – just three seconds quicker than Isabel Sharp’s previous record of 22-36.

Behind Whitcher, Jordan Giles (Primera-TeamJobs) secured the runners-up spot in 20-11, while Boost Bike Hub Road Club rider Bobby Buenfeld took the final spot on the podium in 20-51.

Whitcher now has four wins from seven events in what is proving to be an impressive 2023 season.

In the women’s event, Beverley Hards of New Forest CC was fastest road bike and second overall in 27-12, with Michelle Walters, riding for the promoting club, third in 28-24.

“It definitely went to plan,” said Whitcher. “It's a very true course because even though it’s completely flat it's an incredibly grippy surface.

“Courses like this suit me pretty well I just sat above threshold on the way out and managed to hold on and save something for last couple minutes on the return so I couldn't be more happy with it really.

“I've got an open time trial every Sunday for the next four weeks including the national road bike TT championships which I definitely look forward to.

“It has been a very hard couple of seasons with health issues and waiting for an operation to sort it, which finally took place in June. Ever since that operation I've been completely back to full health and been able to train properly with no interruptions. All I've done is improve so I really look forward to seeing what I can get out of these closing weeks of the season.”

In the road bike category, Dave Dent (GS Stella) went quickest in a time of 23-00, while 23-24 was enough for Malcolm Cox (Velo Club St Raphael) to take second place and third-fastest was Wincanton Wheelers’ Carl Wilson in 25-20.

In the team time trial, Andrew Rivett and Stuart Thompson were fastest with the Velo Club St Raphael pair finishing in 22-53, while a time of 24-16 saw Naomi Shinkins (Bournemouth Arrow) and Kirsty McSeveney (a3crg) finish fastest.

This event, run on the P311 course, is an out-and-back route that starts just south of Ringwood and heads southbound on the B3347 through Bisterne and Avon until Sopley, where riders turn and head back along the same route to finish south of the start line at Moortown.
