Velouse Flyers 25

Newmarket Cycling and Triathlon Club veteran Kerry Brennand set a new course record on her way to victory in the Velouse Flyers’ 25-mile time trial in Norfolk on Sunday, while Renzo Casale (Univ of Bath CC) was overall fastest.

Brennand, 43 and from Burwell in Cambridgeshire, clocked 1-08-40 to lower the previous best for the B25/53 course by 1-55. She was the only female competitor.

Casale, 21 and riding for the University of Bath CC, was on a road bike and secured his second victory of the season so far following a win in the West Suffolk Wheelers 21-mile event back in March.

His time of 58-57 gave him the overall win by just seven seconds from time trial machine user Ben Keeley (Velouse Flyers), with third being Jamie Sparrow (North Norfolk Wheelers) with 59-25.

After Casale, second on a road bike was Tom Hartwell (University of Leeds CC) in 1-00-51, with the promoting club’s Dean Buckingham being third with 1-01-24.

The event was blessed with a beautiful still morning and incorporated the East District Circuit Championships and used an undulating two-lap circuit starting from near Great Bircham and heading out through Shernborne, Doddshill and Sandringham.
