Traditionally, this has been a light-hearted event with a focus on fancy dress. However, some riders still come to test their winter fitness and a course record (since been broken) was set in 2018, showing what can be achieved on an unlikely day.

There will be prizes for fancy dress costumes. Please come to the HQ in your costume so we can admire it and decide on prizes for the best.

There will also be plenty of prizes for fastest times within age groups, as always, no matter which bike - road bike, tricycle or time trial bike - you choose to ride. Somebody once rode the event on a penny farthing, so anything is possible!

Our HQ has plenty of parking and has a short ride to the start and back from the finish.

Boxing Day wins for Sharp and Dyer
Isabel Sharp

Junior ace Isabel Sharp (Drag2zero) was fastest female – and second overall - at the New Forest CC Boxing Day 10-mile time trial in Hampshire, while Bryce Dyer (Bournemouth Cycleworks) was fastest male.

Sharp, the 17-year-old from Southampton, showed her talent and potential when clocking 22-36 to finish just 24 seconds behind overall fastest rider Dyer on the P311 near Ringwood on Monday.

Earlier this year Sharp took bronze and silver medals at the Junior World Track Championship, and in September she finished in the top ten of the junior individual time trial at the Road World Championships in Wollongong in Australia, so her impressive performance on Boxing Day should’ve come as no surprise.

And closer to home she was fastest junior girl at the National Closed Circuit Championship at Thruxton this year, repeating her victory at the same event a year earlier.

Her time of 22-36 was over fine minutes quicker than the next best female rider who was Lizzy Stocker (Bournemouth Jubilee Wheelers) with 27-53, while third quickest of the women on the day was veteran Janine Pattison (Poole Wheelers CC) who was another 1-51 off the pace.

47-year-old Bryce Dyer (Bournemouth Cycleworks-Vitec Fire-Ford Civil-Trek) clocked 22-12 to finish as fastest male by 1-18, with second spot in that category going to Simon Berogna (VC St Raphael) in 23-30, while Chichester City Riders’ Larry Wiltshire being third fastest male in 23-45.

This was Dyer’s second win of 2022, having tasted victory in the Bournemouth Arrow CC 10 on exactly the same course back in August, where he clocked 21-11. Dyer was fourth in this same Boxing Day event 12 months earlier, despite being 14 seconds quicker than his time two days ago.

Fastest junior boy was Hamish Hunter (Sotonia CC) with 24-52 for tenth overall, while Poole Wheelers CC juvenile Oliver Gill was just seven seconds further back in 11th overall.

And in the tandem competition victory went to Sam Humpheson (Look Mum No Hands!) and Beth Allum (Univ of Manchester CC) in 26-15, while the only other tandem pairing was 65-year-old veteran Mary Corbett (Sotonia CC) and Tom Cox (Saint Piran) in 38-41.

The event uses the popular out-and-back P311 course, beginning south of Ringwood in Hampshire and heading south on Christchurch Road (the B3347) before turning at Sopley and retracing back up, finishing just before the start point.
