Bush and Callinan snatch victories in National Junior Circui
Jacob Bush

Juvenile Jacob Bush (Bourne Wheelers) rode above his age to take his first national title at the National Circuit Championship for juniors, while Eva Callinan (Liv AWOL) took her second honours of the season in the junior girl’s event by a narrow margin.

Bush, aged 15, took second place in the National Closed Circuit Championships last weekend and Youth Championships last month.

However, he went one better on this occasion, clocking a winning time of 52 minutes and 45 seconds over the 25-mile course to take victory by 18 seconds.

The Circuit Championships saw riders complete two laps of a 12.5-mile course starting on the A1303 heading west towards Cambridge.

Competitors then turned south east onto an unclassified road to Six Mile Bottom before turning north easterly onto the A1304 to complete a lap.

Scratch rider Aaron Freeman (Chelmer CC) finished fourth in last weekend’s Closed Circuit Championships but went two places better on this occasion taking his first national podium of the season in second clocking 53-03.

A tight battle for third saw James Lloyd (JRC Shutt Ridley RT) locked in battle with Jack Fothergill (Team Jewson- MI Racing/Poly Pipe/McCann).

Lloyd, who finished second in last season’s Closed Circuit Championships, eventually took the final podium place in 54-19- just four seconds quicker than Fothergill.

An enthralling battle in the junior girls’ event saw Callinan take on Flora Perkins (VC de Londres) for honours.

Callinan, aged 17, was National Youth Champion last year and finished third in the National Closed Circuit Championships last weekend.

Around the circuit near Newmarket she recorded an average speed of 24.7 miles per hour to record a time of 1-00-30.

Pekins, who also finished second in last weekend’s Closed Circuit Championships, had to settle for silver again just two seconds back in 1-00-32.

Isabella Johnson (Datalynx-Parenesis Cycling) completed the podium positions taking third in 1-08-13.
