Ditchling Beacon is a famous, iconic 1.5 km road climb on the South Downs in Sussex, rising from the village of Ditchling with an average gradient of around 9% and punishing steep ramps hitting up to 16%. The climb is used annually in the London to Brighton bike ride; it was also used in the 1994 Tour de France and the 2014 Tour of Britain. The road is closed for the event.
The Ditchling Beacon hill climb is part of the South Downs Hill Climb Series which is even bigger and better than ever, with £600+ series prize money, 9 epic climbs and 10 events (one Junior event under BC). Riders can gain series points from each series event they enter, which are then aggregated across the series to award the 6 champion titles and Master age group winners.
