Team MK 20 wins for Shepherd and Mead

David Mead (Team Enable-MI Racing) was fastest at the Team Milton Keynes 20-mile time trial, while his team-mate at Team Enable Zoe Shepherd was fastest female.

Mead clocked 42-14 to take the win a full minute ahead of Ryan Witchell (Royal Leamington Spa CC), with road biker Mike Debney (Verulam-Really Moving) being third, another 1-15 off the pace.

Conditions were near perfect and conducive to fast times, with the temperature perhaps being a little too warm to threaten course records.

“It was the first time I’ve ridden that course so I’m really happy to take the win,” said fastest rider David Mead. “It was an interesting course with a mix of fast A road and more technical back roads that kept you on your toes.

“I overdid it slightly on the first lap and lost about ten watts on the second but overall I was happy as my power was the same as my first ten of the year.

“There wasn’t too much wind, but what there was it was slightly in the wrong direction with it being more headwind on the uphill part of the course.

“Many thanks to the organiser as I think it was his first time in running a time trial and it went well.”

Shepherd clocked 58-27 to finish comfortably as the quickest female, with all three being on road bikes. Runner-up was Lizzy Archer (Ride Revolution Coaching) in 1-02-03, with Rockingham Forest Wheelers’ veteran Lynne Scofield being third in 1-07-47.

Top youth rider was Benjamin Cousins (Verulam-Really Moving) in 49-57 on a road bike, while also on a road bike was fastest espoir Oscar Heslop (Team Milton Keynes) in 53-12.

The promoting club were well represented with their fastest being James Wooldridge in 47-46, just one second better than Chris Bradbury.

The event used the F5v/20 course which begins near Bourne End and heads out on two laps of an anticlockwise circuit through Astwood, Chicheley and North Crawley, finishing back in Bourne End.
