Bournemouth Jubilee Whs 26

Elliott Colyer earned a second successive win with success at the Bournemouth Jubilee 26.2-mile time trial in Dorset on Sunday morning, with Sien Van Der Plank finishing as fastest female.

University of Exeter CC rider Colyer was the only rider to break the hour mark in 59-12, finishing just eight seconds outside Dean Robson’s course record of 59-08.

On his win, Colyer said: “The conditions on the day were ideal for fast times with a helping tailwind up the major climb of the course which was repeated twice.

“Overall the course offered a good mix of technical, minor roads and broader B-roads where it was easier to put down the power making pacing and getting everything out of the tank an interesting challenge.

“I set off with the plan to invest on the climb and into the major headwind section on the return which worked well.

“I am still learning in these TTs to put the power down on the road and have found going mentally 'over' the pacing plan slightly due to the dead spots and micro-recoveries the road gives in corners etc... helps me get more out.

“However, at the finish I felt like I had more in the tank over that duration and could have pushed more watts overall.

“I am very happy with the result, winning overall and taking the road bike course record after a couple of rougher weeks where I felt my legs were missing slightly, they seem to have mainly returned in time for today!”

He was narrowly followed by Poole Wheelers CC pair Brett Wheeler and Tom Nancarrow, who managed 1:01-09 and 1:01-25 respectively to complete the top three who all competed on road bikes.

This was part of an impressive collective performance from the Poole Wheelers Cycling Club contingent, who secured six of the top 10 places in the open category, while Matt Stanbury was fastest time trial bike and fourth overall in 1:02-55.

In the women’s event, Van Der Plank maintained her impressive early season form with a time of 1:12-35, Emma Caplan (Zoom Triathlon Club) taking second in 1:16-37 and a time of 1:17-39 helping Laura Daly (FTP Fulfil the Potential Race Team) to third place on the podium.

This event, run on the P454 course, is a looped circuit that starts just east of East Stoke and sees riders head west towards Wool, where they turn southbound on the B3071, down past Combe Keynes and through the Lulworth Castle estate, turning east at Lulworth Camp until reaching East Lulworth for the penultimate leg northbound up through West Holme Heath and past the start area to repeat the initial leg of the course until finishing just north of Combe Keynes.
