Speed Trophy

Chris Smart (GTR - Return To Life p/b Streamline) was the quickest veteran on age adjusted time to win the SVTTA 15-mile event and the Speed Family Trophy, while Margaret McMillan (Deeside Thistle) was the quickest woman on scratch.

Smart, aged 43, saw his quickest time on scratch of 30-23 reduced to 30-11, in the event which is competed on age adjusted time.

The WM15/01 saw riders start and finish outside Sterling before heading out and back along the A811.

Pre-race favourite Smart won the Bute Wheelers 10 and Tyneside Vagabonds 100 events earlier this month and continued his winning run on this occasion.

Second on age adjusted time was Jim Cusick (Dooleys RT) with his time reduced to 30-54 and Alan Davidson (Dundee Thistle) was third (31-00).

“It was a dry day for a change up here in Scotland,” said Smart.

“The event used some of the same roads as the World Time Trial Championships last year, albeit we rode a lot slower.

“It was a good day for GTR - Return To Life p/b Streamline with four riders in the top five (on scratch). Sadly this appears to be the season finale, we went out in style.”

Smart was also part of the SVTTA Team on age adjusted time alongside GTR - Return To Life p/b Streamline team-mate Marc Anderson with a combined time of 1-02-00.

The only tandem of Isobel Fletcher and Allan MacLean (VC Glasgow South) took that award with an age adjusted time of 35-26.

Smart was also the quickest rider on scratch and the only competitor to break the 31-minute mark in 30-23.

Alastair McNicol (Dooleys RT) broke the GTR - Return To Life p/b Streamline stranglehold finishing second in 31-11, just two seconds quicker than Cameron Muir (GTR - Return To Life p/b Streamline).

Veteran rider McMillan was the quickest female rider on scratch taking her third open victory of the season in 37-23.

Fiona Davidson (Dundee Wheelers) led the battle behind finishing second in 38-57 and Liz Ball (Edinburgh RC) was third (42-45).

Meanwhile, Iain Elliott (West Lothian Clarion) took a clear victory in the road bike category, with his time of 37-03 four minutes quicker than his nearest competitor.
Stephen Spellacy (Newton Stewart Triathlon Club) finished second road bike in 41-24 and David Pritchard (Kennoway Road Club) was third (43-00).

Shirley Gibson (Dundee Wheelers CC) was the only woman road bike competitor and stopped the clock in 51-55.
