Central Sussex CC 10

Ana Mason (VC Londres) and Aaron Sparks-Carolan (Sussex Revolution VC) were quickest female and male riders respectively at the Central Sussex CC time trial in West Sussex on Sunday morning.

Both riders were on road bikes and proved quickest over a course which had to be shortened from the expected ten miles to just 4.3 miles because temporary traffic lights had frustratingly appeared on the course the previous afternoon and no other nearby course was available.

Earlier rain had stopped although the roads were still wet, but a small breeze and temperatures of around eight degrees gave way to sunshine after the event finished.

Equal prizes were handed out for road bikes and time trial bikes with equal numbers of riders taking part of both machines.

Sparks-Carolan covered the shortened distance in 11-27 to win by 29 seconds from Ian Braybrook (Basildon CC) on a time trial machine, while Ferenc Frank (Horsham CC) clocked 12-41 on his road bike.

Ana Mason was the only female to ride and clocked 15-12 on her road bike to mark a good start to her season.

Not all riders had such a good ride though: Spare a thought for Theo Tadros (trainSharp) who suffered a cracked link in his chain which split open after just 200 yards.

Crawley Wheelers’ Rupert Robinson was third fastest on a road bike, while the promoting club’s Stuart Payne clocked 15-08 to finish as second fastest on a time trial bike with event organiser Robin Johnson (Brighton Mitre CC) showing great early season promise with a time of 15-39.
