Fife Century Road Club 25

Alexandra Hayden (Vanelli-Project GO) and Dougie Watson (GTR-Return to Life) were fastest female and male riders at the Fife Century Road Club’s Mackie Tankard 25-mile event near Auchtermuchty in Fife on Sunday.

Watson was just four seconds off the time predicted by national rankings provider Spindata with his time of 53-30, and was well ahead of the next best rider, his team-mate at GTR-Return to Life Marc Anderson with 55-19.

Third spot went to Kinross CC’s Richard Sanderson with 55-28, while just five seconds slower was top junior Corey Whiteford (Lanark Race Team) in fourth overall.

Hayden secured the prize for fastest female with some ease, the Vanelli-Project GO rider clocking 1-03-08 for the WE25/02 course which was about a minute and a half quicker than her Spindata prediction.

That gave her the win on the day by almost seven minutes from Dundee Wheelers’ Fiona Davidson, while third quickest of the ladies was Kinross CC veteran Miriam Rennet, another six minutes back.

The course begins near Ladybank and heads up onto the A91 at Collessie before turning west through Auchtermuchty, turning at Milnathort and heading back up.

This was Hayden’s second open event this year, having finished as second team with a female at the GTR Return to Life two-up 10 near Irvine last month where she rode with Glasgow United CC’s Brian McCardle and clocked 23-00.

Her next ride is expected to be the Glasgow Nightingale CC 10 in two weeks time.
