There was a strong entry for the Northern Veterans’ All-Comers Closed Circuit 10-mile Championships staged at the Croft motor circuit in North Yorkshire on Wednesday evening.

Organised by Cleveland Coureurs and Stockton Wheelers, they were also supported by a host of Teesside clubs and the North Group of the Veterans’ Time Trial Association.

The third running of the annual event, it was held in conjunction with a summer-long ‘come and try it’ scheme to attract new riders into the sport.

The circuit is just over two miles long, riders complete five laps with the final lap seeing them turn into the pit lane to finish.

The first riders off were in the women’s road bike category, with victory going to 57-year-old Deborah Capewell (Team Ohten Aveas) with an age adjusted time of 24-16, while second was Reifen Racing’s 45-year-old Teri Bayliss in a time of 24-32, having been the actual fastest in 27-23.

Sarah Minto (North Tyneside Riders CC) was third, the 41-year-old’s actual time of 28-23 giving her an adjusted 25-51.

Next off were the women on time trial bikes, and in that category the win went to 65-year-old Lucia Borradaile (CC Weymouth) whose actual time of 26-36 gave her an age adjusted time of 21-27. Second was Caroline Ratcliff (Ferryhill Wheelers) with 22-23 and third was Cleveland Wheelers’ Kate Sanderson.

Shaun Tyson (Protech Velo) clocked 22-29 to finish fastest in the men’s road bike category, and he was also the winner on age adjusted time with 21-34.

Second spot went to Kenny McLellan (Reifen Racing) with 22-38, and third was John Flanagan (Moonglu CC) with 22-41.

And in the men’s time trial bikes category fastest was 54-year-old Richard Oakes (Team Ohten Aveas) clocked 20-10 for victory with an age adjusted 19-04.

Russ Richardson (Zurbaran Racing) was second with 20-04, while Marcel Schubert (Darlington CC) was third with 20-18.
