Philip Kennell (GS Metro) and Sarah Foulds (Velo Culture) were fastest male and female riders respectively at the Stockton Wheelers 25-mile event in North Yorkshire on Sunday morning.

Hexham-based veteran Kennell clocked 54-50 for the T252/3 course near Crathorne, giving him victory on the day by 49 seconds from Chris Isats (Berwick Wheelers) with third being Matt Hill (Zurbaran Racing) who was 2-14 off Kennell’s pace.

With the weather conditions proving somewhat challenging Foulds was the only female competitor, but completed the course in a credible 1-11-30.

The well-used course begins near Crathorne and heads down the A19 past Osmotherley and turning at Knayton before heading back up.

This was Kennell’s 13th open time trial so far this season, and his second victory following a win at the Tyne and Wear Fire Service CC 12-mile event back in May. However, he is never far away and was on the podium last weekend with third at the Derwentside CC 10-mile event which was also the Northumberland and Durham CA Championship.

“I’m happy with the win,” said Kennell. “I enjoy riding that course - straight out and back on a quiet stretch of the A19.

“There were strong crosswinds which made it challenging at times particularly in exposed areas. Thanks and well done to the organisers and helpers.”

He is next due to be riding at the Barnesbury CC 25 next Sunday, as he continues preparations for rides at the National 10 and National 25-mile Championships later in the year.
