S4/10Support one of the few events put on this course yearly. We ask that if you can provide a Marshall, it is welcomed, and they will be given a small token of thanks for the thankless task of standing on the edge of the road watching us go past in our snazzy Lycra whatever the weather and keeping us safe!! I look forward to seeing you all!
S4/10 - Start on the A38 approximately 1.3 miles South West of Buckfastleigh at a point level with the penultimate sink in the acceleration lane opposite Dean Prior Parish Church (GR SX730634). Proceed Northeastwards towards Exeter and take the second slip road signed “Ashburton” (Linhay), where filter left into slip road. At the give way line turn right and bear right in 50 yards to cross A38 and rejoin the A38 towards Plymouth. Retrace outward route passing Ashburton, Buckfastleigh and the slip road signed “Lower Dean”. Finish at the drain cover level with the start of the taper at the western end of the lay-by and approximately 500 yards before Dean Prior Church (GR SX730640).
Intermediate mileage – Ashburton Town Sign 5.33miles.
George Kimber and Maria Weymouth were fastest male and female riders respectively at the Royal Navy and Royal Marines CA 10-mile time trial on the popular Buckfastleigh course in Devon on Sunday morning.
Kimber (Embark Spirit BSS) covered the S4/10 in 19-03 to win on the day by 16 seconds from Conrad Moss (Nopinz), while third was the promoting club’s own Tom Scorer (RNRMCA) who was 34 seconds slower than Kimber.
Conditions were near perfect with no wind and dry roads, but despite that the course record held by Marcin Bialoblocki remains well and truly on the shelf.
“I was fairly pleased with my ride but would’ve been nice to go sub 19!” said Kimber. “I went hard to the turn and was expecting more of a tailwind on the return leg. The final drag is a good way to empty to legs.
“My post-race reward was a full English in Moretonhampstead Cafe!” added Kimber, who is next in action at the Grand Prix de la Somme in France next weekend.
Mid-Devon CC’s Maria Weymouth was fastest female in 25-07, giving her the win over Gail Wong (Holsworthy Peloton) by 1-32 with Caitlin Moss (Mid-Devon CC) being third fastest female. Only Weymouth rode a time trial bike, with Wong being quickest on a road bike.
“A year after a bad, non-racing, cycling accident and after only racing a couple of times this season, I can honestly say I have never wanted to race more than today,” said Maria Weymouth.
“Due in part to the help of Carol Royle, a PhD student at the University of Worcester, who gave me free EMDR therapy, and with regained confidence, dry roads and low winds I was hoping for a good race.
“I felt good, my pacing was correct, however the day was deceptively slow. But I was thrilled to be first lady.
“My plan now is a solid winter's training with the aim to race the National 10-Mile Championship next year.”
