Maldon & District CC 50

Chelmer CC’s Peter Harding proved quickest by just three seconds in the Maldon and District CC 50-mile time trial in Essex on Sunday, while Karen Aylen (Maldon & District CC) was best female rider.

Harding clocked 1-54-35 to edge out last year’s event winner Paul Turton (Team Vision Racing) by a narrow margin, while third this year (and second last year) was Finsbury Park CC’s Andrew Turnock who was just over two minutes off Harding’s pace.

Meanwhile Karen Aylen was top female with 2-17-19, taking the win in that category by exactly three minutes from Katie Simmonds (Horsham Cycling).

This was Harding’s first open time trial victory of the season so far having placed tenth in the highly competitive Leo 30 earlier in May. But he will be aiming to take his second win when he rides the Elite CC 10-mile event next weekend.

Aylen’s ride was her first over the 50-mile distance according to her CTT record, and she is aiming to tackle a 50 again next month in the Basildon CC event on June 25. She was also victorious at the Maldon and District CC 25 earlier this month on similar roads, while she was second in the same club’s hilly 22 back in March.

The event used the E21/50 course which covers around three laps of a challenging circuit beginning north of Althorne and heading out to Tillingham and looping back west through Steeple, Mayland and Latchingdon.
