Bank Holiday Baracchi wins for Ridge and Halliday
Becky Ridge

Becky Ridge (Loose Cannon’s Conditioning) was quickest female while David Halliday (Team Bottrill) was fastest overall at VC Baracchi’s Jane Travers Memorial 10-mile time trial on Bank Holiday Monday in Norfolk.

Ridge clocked 22-09 to win the women’s category by 25 seconds from team-mate Hannah O’Brien, while Stowmarket and District CC’s Lara Franklin was third, another 44 seconds back.

Halliday’s time of 19-51 was just four seconds ahead of runner-up Sam Asker (Richardsons-Trek RT) with VC Norwich veteran Chris Holmes being third with 20-22.

"Driving to the event it was pretty wet but actually dried out completely by the time we raced,” explained Ridge. “Also, there was a deceptive head wind on the way back which made the final few miles a real challenge!  It was nice to see a strong group of females on the start line.”

David Halliday

And David Halliday added: “The forecast was for a tailwind out, so with the longer outbound leg I thought it could be a fast day - especially after the early morning rain had cleared in time to let the roads dry.

“I tried not to get too carried away on the outbound leg, but I did start to fade on the return. I’d never broken 20 minutes on the B10/43 course, and I knew I was close so that kept me going! I was delighted with the result and really pleased to take the win in a strong field."

In other categories Great Yarmouth CC’s Toby Barnes had a great ride with 22:54, not long after his 15th birthday.
