Manchester’s Marsden masters Stainborough

Manchester Wheelers’ Richard Marsden set a new course record as he powered to victory in the Birdwell Wheelers hill-climb, staged on the OHC13 course, Wentworth Castle Drive in Stainborough, South Yorkshire.

The 670-yard climb took Marsden just one minute 3.6 seconds and gave him the win over last year’s winner Shaun Dolby of the promoting Birdwell Wheelers, who clocked 1-4.7 to finish just 1.1 seconds back.

Third spot went to Andrew Nichols (Team B38-Underpin Racing), while Sheffrec CC occupied the next three places, Marc Etches finishing a close fourth while his club mates Luke Allen and James Allen were fifth and sixth.

Fastest of the women was Langsett Cycles RT rider Emilie Verroken who covered the course in 1-24.7, good enough for victory by three seconds from Charlotte Gorman (Bury Clarion CC) while Sheffrec CC filled the next two places in the women’s event with Nicola Holloway and Kate Dommett.

The event started shortly after rainclouds had disappeared with the Under-16s, and the first of them was seven-year-old Matilda Claxton of Langsett Cycles with 3-47.3, and the juniors was won by Harry Buxton (Broomwagon RT) with 1-20.4.
