Father-and-son pair Phil and Harris Hall were joint fastest males while Sarah Wilkinson was fastest female at the Houghton CC 10-mile time trial in County Durham on Sunday morning.

The Velo Culture pair not only both stopped the clock on 20-48, but in doing so broke the course record set by Jack Rees in 2021 by 12 seconds in an incredible series of events in Durham.

Despite Harris finishing the first lap with a seven-second lead, his father was able to regain the time to force a tied finish with the two riders having duked it out all season.

In third place came Durham Triathlon Club’s Elliot Gowland, in 21-40, beating Philip Kennell of GS Metro into fourth by seven seconds in 21-47.

On the race, Harris Hall said: “It’s a challenging course with lots of roundabouts and the odd uphill drag but I’m very pleased to come joint first with the old man and get a two minute personal best.”

Meanwhile, dad Phil just said: “There’s life in the old dog yet!”

In the women’s event Sarah Wilkinson (Blaydon CC) rode to an impressive victory in 24-26, with Reifen Racing’s Vicky Gibbs securing second in 24-49, while a time of 26-46 helped Justine Norman take third in another impressive result for Velo Culture.

Christopher Wayman, of Blumilk.com, was fastest on a road bike (23:35) for 12th overall, and fastest rider for the host club Houghton CC was Steve Boxall in 23:37.

This event, run on the M1010B course, starts on Quarrington Hill and proceeds northwest to the Cassop Moor roundabout, joining the A688 southbound to begin the course circuit by continuing south to the B6291.

Riders then encircle the roundabout and returning to Cassop Moor via the A688 northbound, then following the A181 Durham to Wheatley Hill, continuing south again to Cassop Moor and finishing on the A688 southbound.
