Ben Jones (Cycle Specific) and Megan Dickerson (Fulfil the Potential Race Team) were convincing winners of the men’s and women’s events respectively in the Virtual Cycling Club 25 in Monmouthshire on Sunday.

Jones, aged 35, was the only rider to break the 50-minute barrier and was a comfortable winner by over two minutes clocking a time of 48 minutes and 44 seconds.

The R25/7 course is thought to be the fastest 25-mile course in Wales currently and good conditions also helped times.

Riders started with a fast descent down out of Usk past the finish before quickly joining the A40 dual carriageway taking riders to Monmouth.

Competitors turned off the A40 before passing through Mitchel Troy and then re-joining the A40 for the return leg.

Rain showers which had threatened to hit the event failed to materialise and competitors were greeted by calm and dry conditions.

Ben Jones

Scratch rider Jones took his third victory in as many events this season after also winning the Virtual Cycling Club 10 and Cardiff 100 Miles RCC 15-mile event.

Tom Biggs (Cheltenham & County Cycling Club) had to settle for the runners-up position for the third time this season recording a time of 50-59.

Quickest veteran on scratch was Gerry Bowditch (Pontypool Road Cycling Club) who finished third overall in 51-52.

In the women’s event Dickerson was a clear winner with her time of 54 minutes and 30 seconds some seven minutes faster than her nearest rival.

Dickerson also won the FTP Racing 10 last month in 23-04 and recorded her second win of the season in style.

Veteran rider Joanne Jago (Performance Cycles CC) finished second in 1-01-31 while Michelle Lindley (CC Weymouth) finished third (1-11-19).
