Mary Corbett and Geoff Booker.

First time racers, para athletes, juniors and seasoned time triallists alike gathered to make the Sotonia CC Tandem Tart Ten a success in Hampshire on Sunday.

The event attracted an impressive 107 entries which included 24 tandems pairs, but aside from the sporting success more than £550 was raised for vital research into ME.

That takes the amount raised by organiser Mary Corbett to nearly £15,000 as part of her Tandem Tart Challenge to ride with different partners. During this event she rode with her 70th partner Geoff Booker of the Oxonian CC in 28-56 on a tandem trike.

Actual fastest tandem was the record-breaking Newbury Velo pair of Rachael Elliott and Ian Greenstreet in 21-25, who were 2-35 ahead of runners-up Joe and Emma Shepherd of the New Forest CC.

In the solo event fastest on a time trial bike was Paul Jones (Primera TeamJobs) in 22-10 while six seconds further back was Scott Warden (Charlotteville CC) in second, with third spot going to VC Venta’s juvenile Bobby Buenfeld in 22-52.

The Road Bike prize went to juvenile Charlie Shepherd (Solent Pirates Youth CC) in 25-59 which was 34 seconds ahead of second-placed Jason Harrison (Sotonia CC), with the final podium place going to Stephen Skinner (VC St Raphael) in 26-50.

Finally, the fastest two-up pairing were VC St Raphael’s Simon Berogna and Andrew Rivett in 22-02, 34 seconds ahead of Poole Wheelers’ duo Philip Dickson and Stephen Morphew.
