Simon McNamara and Lisa Davis made full use of a fine morning to cruise to victory in the East Sussex CA 10-mile time trial near East Hoathly on Sunday.

McNamara, the 47-year-old HuntBikeWheels.com rider, clocked 20-25 on a bright day with light winds and warm temperatures. That gave him overall victory by four seconds from Matthew Smith (Team TMC) while third was Mark Smith (Crawley Wheelers) with 20-37.

Davis, the 47-year-old Drag2Zero rider from Heathfield who was third in last season’s National 12-Hour Championship, clocked 23-50 to win the women’s category by 47 seconds from Kate Thomas (Lewes Wanderers CC). Third of the females was another Lewes Wanderers rider Kate Parish who covered the G10/87 in 25-47.

This was a second win in a row for in-form McNamara, who was also victorious in the Farnborough and Camberley CC 10 three weeks ago, while he was also second in the Redhill CC sporting 18-mile event last month.

The last time McNamara rode this course was in the same ESCA event in 2019, when his winning time was 20-15. On that same occasion Davis was third fastest female in 24-41, around a minute slower than her winning time today.

This was Davis’s first appearance of the season in open time trials, her last outing being last season’s National 25-Mile Championships where she clocked 59-56 and placed 23rd.

The G10/87 is a popular out and back course on the A22, starting at East Hoathly and heading south east through Whitesmith, Golden Cross and on to Lower Dicker, where riders turn for home.

Outside of the main podium places, Nik Allen (Team TMC) was fourth with 21-04, and fifth went to Joe Benians (Lewes Wanderers CC) in 21-23, 14 seconds ahead of Brett Davis (Drag2zero).

Brighton Mitre CC’s Tracey Williams was just outside the women’s podium in fourth with 26-30, while Katie Simmonds (Horsham Cycling) was25 seconds further back as fifth female.
