Sally Turner

Paul Newsome (Project 51) was victorious in the East Sussex CA 15-mile time trial, while Sally Turner (trainSharp) came out on top in the women’s event.

34-year-old Newsome went around the GS/895 course near Bodle Street Green fastest to take the crown in a time of 38:02.

Narrowly missing out on top spot was Conall Yates (Team Solo Vinci) though his time of 38:11 was fast enough to secure second place. In third was Richard Cartland (HuntBikeWheels.com) who clocked in at 39:44 to take the final spot on the podium.

In the women’s event it was Sally Turner that claimed the top prize. She got around the course in 41:02 - a time that saw her smash the women’s course record which was previously 45:48.

Kate Parrish (Lewes Wanderers CC) was the second quickest woman clocking a time of 44:20, a time that also would have taken the course record if not for Turner. The final podium place was awarded to Pip Jenkins (Southborough & Dist Whs) as she completed the course in 46:02.

After going winless throughout the 2021 season Newsome returned with a bang, winning his first open event of 2022. He is planning to ride the Paceline RT 15.8 in a few weeks where he will be looking to continue his good form.

The fastest junior rider of the day was 16-year-old Henry Weaver (Southborough & Dist Whs) who completed the course in 49:36.

Fastest over-40 veteran was Conall Yates, while best over-50 rider was Matthew Woods (Eastbourne Rovers in 40-20. And the best over-60 rider was Peter Baker (Lewes Wanderers CC) in 49-09.
