Congleton CC earned double delight at Seamons Cycling Club 25-mile time trial on Saturday afternoon, with Alastair Ribbands finishing fastest male and Claire Harrison claiming fastest female at the 25-mile event near Byley in Cheshire.

Ribbands clocked 53-30 to earn a ninth time trial success of the season, with a time of 54-15 enough for University of Derby CC rider Tristan Pilling to take second and third place going to Alan Chorley, riding for the promoting club, in 54-26.

In the women’s event, Harrison completed a dominant ride in 1-02-11 to seal success ahead of North Lancashire RC’s Jan Scotchford in 1-06-18 and Michelle Fairclough of Salford Cycling Club who finished in 1-06-36.

Chorley’s time was enough to win the veteran on standard category in +13-44, 20 seconds ahead of clubmates Richard Shaw in +13-44 and Adrian Hughes in +12-48.

There was further success for Chorley and Shaw in winning the team prize alongside Stephen Dooley, registering a time of 2-45-46.

Congleton CC also had more to celebrate, with Paul Nicholls finishing fastest on handicap in 49-10, with clubmate Alison Stephenson runner-up in 50-56 and Weaver Valley’s Lloyd Smith completing the podium in 51-17.

Ribbands enjoyed his first victory in six races since winning the Buxton CC/Sett Valley Cycles 10-mile time trial on June 16, finishing at the head of a 43-strong field in hot and sunny conditions.

The route, on course J2/9, sees riders complete a loop starting in Bomish Lane, heading southbound towards Chelford then northwards at Ollerton and past Seven Sisters to Cranage and northbound past Twemlow to complete the first circuit, before doing half a circuit and finishing on London Road.
