Alexander Royle (Manchester Bicycle Club) secured the top spot in the Manchester and District TTA 50-mile the trial, while Jasmine Holmes (University of Manchester CC) was the victor in the women’s event.

Royle claimed victory in this event, leading the competition by just 36 seconds with his time of 1:46:19. Coming second at 1:46:55 was Alastair Ribbands of Congleton CC and in the third and final podium spot was Tom Thornely (Buxton CC) as he completed the 50-mile ride in 1:48.20.

In the women’s event it was Jasmine Holmes that took top spot comfortably, finishing nearly four minutes faster than her nearest competition in a time of 2:03:58. Second place was Molly Savill (Albarosa CC) who came in at 2:07:32, while third place was taken by Joanna Cebrat (Bury Clarion CC) as she clocked 2:09:15.

So far this season of the three open events Royle has ridden prior to this he finished on the podium in two of them, both second place finishes. The most recent was the Buxton CC 10 and the other being in the popular Anfield Bicycle Club 100.

This ride was a new personal best for Jasmine Holmes, knocking over eight minutes off of her previous best which stood at 2:12:40. Despite not having a very active year so far, this being only her second open event of 2022, she has marked both events with a podium finish.

But this was her first win of the season as her last podium came in the VTTA Manchester & NW Group 25 where she finished second. She is next in action next weekend in the Manchester and District Ladies CA 25.

The team award was won by Seamons CC which consisted of Richard Shaw (1:53:10), Adrian Hughes (1:55:16) and Daniel Mathers (2:00:04).

The veteran on standard prize was awarded to David Hargreaves (+29.21). There was also a prize for the overall handicap winner, this went to the women’s winner Jasmine Holmes.
