Ady Dench (Team Sheffield) took his first ever open time trial victory at the Bossard Wheelers 10-mile charity event, while Linda Dewhurst (Team Milton Keynes) was the women’s winner.

Veteran rider Dench recorded an average speed of over 28.48 miles per hour on his way to setting a winning time of 21 minutes and four seconds.

Roadworks on the original course meant an emergency version of the F15/10 was used which saw riders racing on an out and back course between Bedford Road in Marston Moretaine and Marston roundabout.

The changed course resulted in an increase from one to four roundabouts and riders had to also compete with a hot temperature of 28 degrees Celsius.

The event raised £174 for the Little Bleeders charity that supports young people with blood disorders to “move more and be more”. It was set up by professional cyclist and severe haemophiliac Alex Dowsett.

Dench, aged 53, finished fifth in the Coalville Wheelers 10 in February and showed his improving form to win on this occasion.

Ryan Witchell (Team Salesengine.co.uk) was taking part in his first open time trial since 2018 and returned with a bang finishing second just nine seconds back in 21-13.

Veteran Antony Brown (George Fox Cycling Solutions) completed the podium positions placing third in 22-15.

Para-cyclist Graeme Church (QN Racing) completed the course in 31-33.

Spindata predicted that third placed Brown would be faster than Dench but in reality the Sheffield rider reversed that prediction.

“I had a good ride and felt pretty solid,” said Dench. “It was very warm and there was a crosswind in both directions so it never really felt any help or anything.”

In the women’s event Dewhurst posted a winning time of 24 minutes and 48 seconds.

Dewhurst, aged 63, from Buckingham, also won the Team Milton Keynes 20 in April and added another win to her collection.

A battle for second saw veteran Joanne Woodcock (Bedfordshire Road CC) finish in 26-51 which was 43 seconds quicker than Stephanie Cousins (QN Racing) who clocked 27-34.
