Scratch rider Neil Harris set a new course record for the hosting club in the Southborough & Dist. Whs 10, while Pip Jenkins (1904RT) was the quickest woman.

Harris, aged 40, posted a winning time of 20 minutes and seven seconds which was three seconds faster than the previous course record set by Nicholas Fennell last year.

The Q10/33 saw riders start and finish at Tenterden completing a 10-mile loop, heading out on the B2080 towards Appledore.

After a quick opening five miles competitors then turned onto Woodchurch Road with a climb through Great Heron Wood before joining the B2067 for the final two miles.

Nice conditions with a temperature of 17 degrees Celsius greeted riders but with a breeze into the finish which challenged competitors.

Harris also won the East Sussex CA 25 last month and showed his form to take a second win of the season.

Fellow veteran Kevin Tye led a trio ahead of VeloRefined Rule 5 riders taking second in 21-38 just 13 seconds ahead of team-mate Andrew Meilak.

Tye reversed the result in the veterans on standard competition with +6.13 ahead of Harris (+5.59).

Despite Mark Hill (VeloRefined Rule 5) finishing fourth in 22-19 it was Southborough & Dist. Whs who took the team award by five seconds.

The Southborough & Dist. Whs winning team comprised of Harris, Chris Parson-Green (22-20) and Julian Fussell (22-52).

In the women’s event Jenkins recorded a winning time of 24 minutes and 21 seconds.

Jenkins, aged 34, from Groombridge, also won the Medway Velo Club 25 last weekend and was once again victorious.

The battle for second saw veteran Debbie Percival (Kent Velo Girls/Boys) finish second in 27-27 which was 40 seconds faster than Eva Zsigoova (…a3crg) in 28-07.
