Tom Hutchinson

Tom Hutchinson (Team Bottrill) and Kate Allan (Team Bottrill) overcame hot conditions to take the men’s and women’s victories at the Shaftesbury CC 50.

Despite the conditions Hutchinson, aged 26, recorded a winning time of one hour, 37 minutes and 23 seconds to win by over four minutes.

Hutchinson, from Gateshead, finished second in the National 100-mile Championship last weekend but went one better over the shorter distance.

The F2/50 saw riders start near Highfield Caldecote and saw riders compete on the A428 between Cambourne and Madingley.

Riders completed three full out and back loops before finishing outside Madingley.

A hot temperature with no wind meant that several riders suffered and had to abandon.

However, Hutchinson kept his cool to clinch a third win of the season.

Kate Allan

Quickest veteran on scratch Anthony Jones (WMCC powered by Y Beic) led the chase behind taking a clear second place in 1-41-38.

The closest battle was for third place with David Halliday (Team Bottrill) recording 1-43-13 which was just two seconds faster than Henrik Persson (FTP (Fulfil The Potential) Racing).

Spindata had predicted a win for Hutchinson in 1-40-25 but in reality he went three minutes faster on this way to victory.

The only tandem pair were Kevin and Martin Baumber (Shaftesbury CC) who recorded a time of 1-54-58.

In the women’s event Allan, from Maidenhead, posted a winning time of one hour, 44 minutes and 28 seconds which would have also placed her fifth overall.

The 37-year-old was also runner-up in last weekend’s National 100-mile Championships but was not to be denied this time out.

Veteran rider Angela Carpenter (…a3crg) was pushed into second covering the course in 1-47-20 while Anastasia Bowler (AS Test Team) finished third (1-53-31).
