Ollie Hucks

Ollie Hucks (Saint Piran) took victory by over five minutes in the Maidenhead & District CC 29.5, while Kate Allan (Team Bottrill) was the only woman but broke her own course record.

Hucks started as scratch man having won three events already this season and showed why setting a winning time of one hour, two minutes and 37 seconds.

The 23-year-old also won the same event two years ago in a then course record of 1-03-29 but knocked over a minute off that mark this time out.

Allan was also the course record holder clocking in but lowered that mark despite having to stop for traffic lights completing the course in 1-09-19 which was also good enough for fourth overall.

The hilly Maidenhead & District CC event over 29.5 miles sees riders complete a loop starting at Lane End before heading out on the B482 to Stokenchurch. Riders then headed across to Cookley Green and Nettlebed before joining the fast A4130 into Henley-on-Thames.

Following the River Thames across to Marlow after 25 miles of racing competitors faced the final climb to the finish near Moor End.

The weather was good, with a temperature around 18 degrees Celsius with a helpful south, south-easterly breeze to assist up the initial drag to Stokenchurch.

Hucks finished second in the National Circuit Championships in June and showed his form to add another win to his collection.

Leading the charge behind was junior rider Joseph O’Brien (Lee Valley Youth CC) who finished runner-up in a time of 1-07-51.

Completing the men’s podium position was Michael Nagi (Team Bottrill) who completed the course in 1-09-09.

Spindata had predicted a win for Hucks in 1-03-52 but he lowered that mark by a minute and 15 seconds.

Allan, from Maidenhead, was crowned National 10-mile Champion last weekend and showed her form over the longer distance to break her own course record.

The 37-year-old set a women’s course record of 1-12-46 winning the same event in March but lowered that mark by 3-27 despite being stopped by the temporary traffic lights.

The only two-up pairing was Nicholas Coe and Stan Nwaka (Verulam Really Moving) who completed the course in 1-27-29.
